If you are anything like me, you love Kendra’s (Terri’s sister) unique brand of crazy and cunning. It is often hard to tell whether her ponytail is pulled too tight or she is under the influence of one too many rum-based drinks. But whatever the case may be, Kendra adds a definite lightness to the show unparalleled by any other character.
It comes as no surprise to me, then, that Jennifer Aspen, the delightful actress that plays Kendra, wants to be a part of all of this “singing and dancing nonsense” Glee is famous for. She has started tweeting under the name @GiveKendraASong (proven to be the real Jennifer Aspen) in hopes of getting some support!
So, to aid my dear Kendra (and Jennifer Aspen) in getting their wish, I have put together a list of songs that I think would be appropriate for Kendra to sing.Caveat here – these songs may not be in Ms. Aspen’s vocal range, nor may they have originally been sung by a woman. But this is my list. So back off.
1. “Edge of Seventeen” by Stevie Nicks. This is the perfect solo for Kendra to sing to empower Terri to stay strong regarding the Will situation. It doesn’t go very high, so she won’t compete with the divas, yet it has just the right amount of attitude to let Kendra be…well, Kendra.
2. “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. Can we say the PERFECT song for Kendra to sing with Terri while they are at the hospital nursery plotting to steal Quinn’s baby? I think the contrast between Stevie Wonder’s classic song and two well-meaning psychos would be fanTAStic. Plus, the song is easy to sing and could be well split up into a duet.
3. “Anything You Can Do” from the Broadway musical, Annie Get Your Gun. An “anything you can do I can do better” between Kendra and Will? It would be an awesome “I hate you Will” moment and prove that Kendra can sing and dance like the rest of them (and better than Mr. Schue).
4. “Tired” by Adele. If ever they wanted to focus on Kendra as a disgruntled mom who just needs a little time, love, and tenderness, this would be the perfect ballad. Modern, jazzy, boozy…..everything Kendra is.
Maybe the powers that be at Fox and Glee will take my advice and finally give Kendra her 15 minutes of fame.
What do you think? Any songs you would add to the list?

GiveKendraASong is definitely Jennifer Aspen! Rachel, who wrote for GleeClubOnline, got her to sign up for twitter while she was interviewing her! So fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed the real Jennifer Aspen. Former writer Rachel K is the one who interviewed her and got her to sign up for Twitter and colaborated with her to start this campaign.
ReplyDeleteIts about time this sight mentioned this!! Im still thinking a duet between her and Jessalyn! Perhaps something with a hint of revenge Blondies One Way or another!?

ReplyDeleteIf it is something classical to musical theater, I like, "I'm just a gal who can't say no."
