New Wins, Nominations, Concerts and Other News

Last week was full of events for the Glee cast members, I wonder how they still manage to shoot their scenes without dying of exhaustion and tiredness…

First of all, there were the Golden Globes: Those of you who watched the cast take home the award for best comedy series last year, might have thought they wouldn’t win again. But you were wrong! They didn’t only win the award for best comedy series but also two more awards: Jane Lynch won for best supporting actress and Chris Colfer for best supporting actor in a comedy series. Check out his emotional acceptance speech here:

Trivia Tuesday: Jane Lynch

I hope you like this one. I wasn't able to find much on my initial search, so keep checking back. I might just add something awesome!

Jane likes her sheets crisp and white, so she sends them to the dry cleaners.

She's deaf in her right ear.

Jane would most like to star opposite in a same-sex love story with Jennifer Saunders and Stepfanie Kramer. Jane is openly lesbian.

She received her bachelor's degree in theater from Illinois State University and her MFA from Cornell University, also in theater.

She's afraid of elevators so much so that she won't get on alone.

She loves coffee so much that she has been known to throw out the first pot if it isn't perfect.

Jane prefers to play supporting roles so she can show up in any guise.

Jane says she hopes to steer more toward directing then acting in the future.

She has a little dog that wears a diaper because she isn't potty trained.

Jane's acting inspirations include Meryl Streep, Anne Heche, Vince Vaughn and Catherine Keener.

Spoiler Alert!

E! News recently spoke with Cory Monteith at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards and got some information about what the future has in store for Finn and Rachel: "It's going to be a very long-lasting relationship. It's like what Rachel and Ross were like on Friends. They go through the ups and downs, but they have that long-lasting relationship." As for the upcoming Madonna episode, "Let me tell you," he said, "I watched the episode and was like, 'I cannot believe I am in this episode of television because it...is...so...uh-may-zing!'"

Jane Lynch Tells UK Daily Mirror: "I Didn't Want To Be Gay."

In a revealing January 31 interview in the UK's Daily Mirror, Jane Lynch revealed juicy details about her personal life, her upcoming singing scenes in Glee and even a few minor bombshells about her character, the egomaniacal, slightly deranged cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester.

Lynch, 49, who will marry her partner Lara Embry in May, had a hard time coming out to her parents. In fact, she waited until she was 31 to tell them she's gay.

Wedding Bells to Chime for Jane Lynch

Come May, Jane Lynch will marry longtime girlfriend Dr. Lara Embry!  Jane spilled the beans to the New York Times Carpetbagger blog while on the red carpet at the Golden Globe awards.

Jane & Lara met at a National Center for Lesbian rights event in May 2009 where Embry received the organization's Justice Award and Jane was there to introduce The L Word creator who was also receiving an award.

Golden Globe Award, SAG Award, and a WEDDING!  What a great streak for everyone's favorite nasty cheer coach!

Congratulations Jane & Lara!

Rosie O'Donnell on Glee?

Following her HBO press conference to  promote  her new special, A Family is a Family is a Family, Rosie O’Donnell  admitted she’d  love to make a guest appearance on Glee ... as Sue Sylvester's lover!

Is Sue even a lesbian? (I mean, probably, but is it really verified?)

“I would like to have a competitive cheerleading team against Jane Lynch,” she  replied when asked which star she’d like to bump heads with on the show. “And  maybe she and I fall in love and have a torrid affair, I don’t know.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Rosie has worked with Glee director Ryan  Murphy. She performed on his FX show, Nip/Tuck. She’s also spent a good  deal of time on Broadway, so Glee may just be the perfect fit for the New York actress.

“In a heartbeat, I would do  it in a moment,” she raved. “I would sing anything they asked.”

Let's Talk Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are THIS Sunday and if you are like me you are dying to see who takes home the big prizes. I am actually most excited to see the Gleeks out in force to support each other and their show. What will they wear? Will Matthew Morrison actually show up to an event? Who will win? Here's what I think...tell me what you predict!

Glee - Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical
The Hollywood Foreign Press loves newbies and so I personally think that Glee has a great shot at winning in this category. They are however up against some fierce competition in "30 Rock", "Entourage", "Modern Family", and "The Office". I'd like to see "30 Rock" knocked down from their 3 year winning streak and give the underdogs a shot.

Who do you think will take home the prize?

Lea Michele - Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical

Lea is a fresh face nominated for her first ever Golden Globe. She does however have some major competition consisting of a few TV veterans and plenty of insane talent. Her competitors are Toni Collette ("United States of Tara"), Courtney Cox ("Cougar Town"), Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie"), and Tina Fey ("30 Rock"). I really don't know who is going to win this one but I sure hope Lea brings it home.

How about you...do you think Lea has a shot?

Matthew Morrison - Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical

Gosh, I love him. We all know that. I also think he is an incredibly talented performer but I just don't think he's going to win this one. (Sorry, Matt. You know, in case he reads this.) It breaks my heart but he is up against some comedic giants. Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock"), Steve Carell ("The Office"), David Duchovny ("Californication"), and Thomas Jane ("Hung") will pose a tough crew to beat for my Matty Fresh.

Do you think he has what it takes to take home the Globe?

Jane Lynch - Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television

The genius that is Sue Sylvester will win for sure. I have no doubt about that. If I'm wrong, I'll...I don't know...we'll have to think of something. She has some tough competition but this woman has been a force of nature this year and will no doubt smoke fellow nominees; Jane Adams ("Hung"), Rose Byrne ("Damages"), Janet McTeer ("Into the Storm"), Chloe Sevigny ("Big Love").

What do you think?

Don't forget to tune in for the Golden Globes this Sunday, January 17th on NBC.

Also, I am hard at work transcribing my nearly hour-long interview with Stephen Tobolowsky (Sandy Ryerson). I am almost done and should have it up on the site in a few days.

Thank you for your patience!

Jane Lynch & Her Puppy Pals

Sue Sylvester has a soft side for her pups!  Jane Lynch was spotted lunching with her furry friends earlier this week.  She even took time to chat with a fan.  I wonder if she spilled any Glee scoop?  I hope she's getting lots of rest so she can gear up to WIN the Golden Globe on Sunday night.

Jane Lynch Will Sing....

Just in case you missed this news... (because apparently, I did!)

While speaking with People, Jane Lynch revealed one of the songs she will be singing in an upcoming episode of Glee: "“I have two songs this season. One is ‘Let’s Get Physical’ with Olivia Newton-John."

You might think working with Olivia Newton-John would be a bit intimidating, but luckily, Jane has experience working with pop-culture icons and has a few tricks up her sleeve to make it easier: "I’m going to treat it just like how I treated working with Carol Burnett, which almost made me have an aneurysm. You just go there and you relax and you don’t ask any questions and you try to be as normal as possible. Carol Burnett was so lovely. By the end of it, we were friends and she had told me a bunch of stories without me even asking, because I was like a crazy sycophant-type person. My plan is the same with Olivia Newton-John. I’m just going to be as normal as I can be.”

Check out this original music video for the song they will be singing together and get ready for the amazing and hilarious duet that it is bound to be!!

Jane Lynch Disappointed in Obama

The Guardian sat down with (out of the closet) Jane Lynch and the always-opinionated Glee actress had the following to say about President Obama and his failure to legalize gay marriage.  Be sure to check out the rest of the interview.

Shouldn't there be safeguards against the majority voting on the rights of a minority? If people voted on civil rights in the '60s, it would have never happened. It took somebody like (President) Lyndon Johnson going, 'F all of you! I'm going to do this.' Obama won't do it. He's a huge disappointment to me.

Jane Lynch Talks to PopWrap

Jarret Wieselman of PopWrap spoke to Jane Lynch all about her incredible portrayal of Sue Sylvester.  I have to tell you, I love this woman.  She is so humble and you can just tell that she loves working on Glee and creating this character.  There are so many things about the show that are great but I think it is safe to say that she makes up about 98% of it's awesomeness!  Thanks Jarret for another great Glee Q&A!!

When future generations look back at the treasure trove of TV on DVD that I plan to leave in a time capsule beneath my apartment, they will say a few things. "Aw, what an eloquent note Jarett left for us, let's erect a statue to him!" "Man, Eric is so much hotter than Bill!" "Seriously, why was Jay Leno was on at 10 p.m.?"

But more than anything, they will realize that 2009 was the year Jane Lynch crafted one of the most dynamic and devilish characters in television history on "Glee." From the minute we first met Sue Sylvester she has been a hilarious source of bile, bon mots and barbs, the likes of which have never been seen before.

Now, Jane is taking her trademark acerbic wit over to "The Cleveland Show" with a guest spot as Roberta's nasty teacher, Mrs. Eck. Jane chatted about the differences between these two characters, exactly how crazy the last six months of her life has been and what fans can look forward to when "Glee" returns in April!

PopWrap: Sue Sylvester and Mrs. Eck seem to be cut from the same curmudgeon cloth -- but who would emerge victorious in a battle of wits?
Jane Lynch: Oh, Sue Sylvester would reign supreme! I think Mrs. Eck has a chink in her armor. She's got a little more sensitivity and is prone to self-doubt, where Sue has none of that [laughs].

Do you find it quite cathartic to say all those horrific things when playing Sue?
Jane: When I put on the track suit, I have a license to say anything I want. I think it's probably very good therapy, makes me a much nicer person at home since I get it all out at work. That kind of contemptuousness is kind of shallowly below the surface for me, so I don't have to dig deep for it [laughs].

But I loved seeing your softer side in "Julie & Julia" this summer, did you enjoy playing the other side of the coin?
Jane: Oh yes. I don't get to play a lot of those people. Somebody who's first instinct is to find what's passionate and wonderful about any situation. It was very liberating to be open and eccentric and curious and kind spirited.

We did see other sides of Sue last year, especially with her sister, will those sneak out again?
Jane: That was a touching episode, and we got to see a softer side in three or four different episodes. Although they were short lived. I think that'll come back. I think there's a decency to Sue. I just think she really enjoys being an awful person. She gets a, if you will, glee out of it. I just think she really enjoys shocking people.

You all just returned to set for the first time in a long time, how was it?
Jane: Yes, we wrapped in July, so it's been several months. I started work Wednesday with all the kids yesterday and it was so great to see them. They were still flushed with victory from the People's Choice Awards where they got to accept Best Comedy. They were very happy.

With the Golden Globes just around the corner, I'm wondering if you've started making plans yet?
Jane: Well, the hardest part so far has been anxiety about the dress. Almost immediately I went to a designer and he had one on the mannequin that I ended up choosing. So right now it's just relaxing and looking forward to a good time. No track suit!

Have you written a speech?
Jane: No, not at all [laughs]

Personally, I think you should -- how crazy has this year been for you?
Jane: When you're in it, you almost can't feel it. When I was home in Chicago for the holidays my family was besides themselves with delight and thrilled that a family member is on TV. When I see how excited they are, it kinda kicks in for me. But when you're in it, it's kind of overwhelming. So for me, I just choose not to feel anything at all.

I know you sing in an upcoming episode, were you excited to tackle that?
Jane: I am! I'm very excited about it. Of course I can't tell you much because it's top secret, but I've recorded the song and had several dance rehearsals. It's going to be fun.

What's harder for you: singing or dancing?
Jane: Dancing. I have to work 10 times harder than everyone else at that. [Singing] is a dream come true. I recorded for "A Mighty Wind" also, but it's not as easy as one thinks. You have to be right on pitch-wise, right on time-wise and I always thought I was good at those things. But according to Adam [Anders, music producer] I am not. [laughs]

With the popularity of the show, have you found other actors coming up to you and gushing about "Glee?"
Jane: Every once in a while someone I recognize will say something, so it's been really gratifying. I feel like there's nothing better than being satisfied with your work and to have everybody chime ... I'm so grateful. What's wrong with an interaction that starts with "I love you?" It's one of those things, I say I could die happy now if I had to.

More Madonna News

This one is short but sweet - OK! Magazine has a a little Q&A with Jane Lynch in their current issue and she reveals one of the songs in the much anticipated Madonna episode.  I wonder who sings it!

When asked what song she most recently downloaded she said, "I’ve been kinda into Madonna these days. I grew up in the ’80s so she provided the soundtrack to my life,” she revealed. “I think my favorite song is ‘Crazy for You.’ It’s got such an aching and longing to it; I know we’re doing it in the Madonna episode."

So we know that "Like a Virgin" is in as well as "Crazy for You".  It has been confirmed that the Madonna episode will be the second one back after the hiatus.  Have I mentioned before how excited I am for the Madonna episode?

Happy 2010 everyone!  I hope you all had a fun and safe New Years!

More News from Ryan Murphy

In further research about the Hollywood Radio & Television luncheon held a couple of weeks ago I have found out a few fun facts about Glee that some may not have known as well as some history for Glee genius Ryan Murphy.

According to Greginhollywood.com, the original script for the pilot of Glee had no Sue Sylvester!  Can you imagine the show without her?  Thank goodness Fox president Kevin Reilly realized that a villain was needed and sought out Ryan Murphy's thoughts as to who this villain should be.  Murphy immediately gravitated towards Jane Lynch but was worried that it would be hard to nab someone like her for this role.  He was able to get creative in the character description for Sue's part and tried to make the character in to someone Jane would like to play.  He used the words, "Sue Sylvester, probably on horse estrogen" and was hoping she would be intrigued by that and of course, the rest is history!

I'm sure Jane's not sorry she took the role considering the fact that she is nominated for a Golden Globe, Satellite Award, and SAG award!  Oh and mark my words...she will absolutely be nominated for (as well as probably win) an Emmy for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester.

Here's a little fun fact about Ryan Murphy, he always wanted to be an actor!  “When I was a kid, when I was growing up, I initially wanted to be an actor, I kind of had the lead in all the musicals,” he said. “I kind of got to college and I started writing musicals and I was, I think, too self-conscious as a performer. But I desperately loved performing but more than that, I remember being that age and thinking that how much potential there was, anybody could be a star. I wanted to tap into that [with Glee] because I love that feeling.that anything is possible.”

I'm sure Ryan would have been a terrific actor but I'm very glad that he set up shop behind the camera to bring all of us his Glee-ful creation!

Jane Lynch Bio

Name: Jane Lynch

Nickname(s): Jany, Lynch Mob

Date of Birth: July 14, 1960

Fun Fact: She admires Meryl Streep and Anne Heche, and thinks Vince Vaughn is great.

Hometown: Dolton, Illinois

Character on Glee: Sue Sylvester

Jane Lynch attended Illinois State University, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in theater. She then went on to get her Master of Fine Arts from Cornell. She's been starring in films since 1988 and commonly plays sarcastic, controlling roles, such as her character in The 40 Year Old Virgin, and of course, Glee.

Jane came out of the closet over 25 years ago and says the reason she thinks there haven't been more movies about lesbians is because, "The Christian Right is very powerful, and I think a lot of people in America are conservative. But all these Christians who said that morals were the reason they voted for George Bush, I wonder how many of them were among the 25 million people who watch Desperate Housewives? Which is hardly moral television."

Quick Quote: "I’m very picky, very critical. I have done projects in the past that I didn’t think were very good, because I was just happy to work—my agent used to say I’d work for a steak and $1.50--but I’m not really doing that anymore."
