Family: We think two parents. Dad is a dentist. Don't know about siblings.

Mercedes is a diva-in-training with a fabulous wardrobe and an even more fabulous attitude.  She enjoys drama, gossip, and singing.  She appears strong-willed and confident, often standing up for herself when she doesn't feel like she is in the spotlight.

Secretly, Mercedes has two weaknesses.  First, she loves her friends.  She is willing to sing a song for a friend that is in trouble, even if that friend doesn't really get along with her outside of glee club.  She is often found talking on the phone to her BFFs -- Artie, Kurt and Tina -- giving them loving advice (and often letting them see the error of their unfashionable ways).

Second, she wants to be loved.  After a mistaken relationship with Kurt, she got upset and busted the windows of his car.  I think she craves someone else to think she is as fabulous as she knows she is, and will do anything to get that person.  But, she is also misguided enough to think that someone (Kurt), who just wants to be great friends, might actually date her.

"Atrocious" Audition Videos

If you've ever had an audition, you know that they are often nerve-wracking, soul-crushing experiences.  Your hands are sweaty, you can hardly swallow over that lump in your throat, and often times your performance is affected by this.

Fortunately for me, as an instrumentalist, auditions are usually behind a screen, meaning you could be playing your excerpts and scales in your pajamas and no one would care.  As long as you play perfectly.

But for TV and film stars, you have to look the part too.

While I really enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look at Lea Michele and Cory Monteith's auditons on the Glee DVD, I felt like something was missing. The rest of the cast perhaps?

Recently, I discovered some videos courtesy of People that give us a peek at the audition processes of Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, and Jenna Ushkowitz.  They say their hair was "atrocious". But their singing was spot-on. Probably why they got the jobs. I only wish I could audition as well as they can!

Amber Riley Wants Beyoncé

While speaking with Digital Spy, Amber Riley mentioned that her dream guest star on Glee would have to be Beyoncé: "Far-fetched, out of this world, but it would be great to see Beyoncé come on!" she said. "That would be so cool."

Perhaps Heather Morris (a.k.a. Brittany, the one that thought a ballad was a male duck) can use her connections to help make Amber's dream a reality?

Amber Riley Talks to US Magazine

US Magazine caught up with Amber Riley to ask her a few questions at Thursday night's "Hot Hollywood" party. She insisted to them that Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are not an off-screen item by saying, "We are like family. It would be like incest. And that is just really gross."

I don't really think it's any of our business if they're together or not. What do you think? Would you like to see them as a couple off-screen? Let us know in the comments how you feel!

Glee Cast Members At New Moon Premiere

Glee cast members Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Chris Colfer attended at the New Moon red carpet premiere last night in Hollywood. 

While talking to Access Hollywood, Mark Salling said, "I sit in a dark room and read the books by candle light to Taylor’s picture and a rose in my ear. I’m a huge fan." and “I’m really anxious to see the movie. It’s a trip.” They asked how Glee fans compare to fans of Twilight and he said, “I think there’s a little crossover. I think you can be a little of both, but I think this is a little darker… They’re all loyal.”

As most people know by now, Amber auditioned to be a contestant on American Idol when she was 17. She didn’t make it, but she has since said it was one of the best things that could have happened to her. When Ryan Murphy saw her in a the pilot of Cedric the Entertainer Presents, he cast her in Glee.

Watching this video, you would never guess that Amber Riley was starring in a hit, prime time show.  She just seems so cool and down-to-earth.   Amber and Chris Colfer are convinced that they are going to annoy everyone on their airplane. I'm sure all you gleeks will really enjoy this!

Are These Glee Clubbers Actually Talented?

For some time a topic of controversy has been whether or not the actors of the FOX hit Glee have real musical talent. Well, stars of this show, like Lea Michele, actually have quite an extensive musical theater resume.

Lea started on Broadway at the young age of 8 years old in Les Miserables in 1995. Following this great debut, Lea also performed in Ragtime and Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. Her latest big role was originating the lead part of Wendla in the Broadway musical Spring Awakening. She now stars in Glee as Rachel.

Kurt, Chris Colfer, performed, wrote and directed for his entire high school career. He even created a spoof of "Sweeney Todd" called "Shirley Todd" and starred in the production. He is one of the younger cast members at 19 years old.

Surprisingly, the amazing voice of Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes was turned down by American Idol, while Kevin McHale, "Artie" is a former boy band member of the group "NLT." He has also been featured on shows like "True Blood". Unlike his character in the show, Kevin can walk and is not bound to a wheel chair.

Jenna Ushkowitz plays Tina in Glee. A cool connection is that she has known co-star Lea Michele since age 8 and had her Broadway debut in The King and I. She starred in many roles in high school but had much bigger roles on Broadway. After graduating from Marymount Manhattan College, she played numerous characters in Spring Awakening.

Many of these actors and actresses have extensive musical backgrounds, which make them perfect choices for a musical, 'dramedy' such as Glee.

Let's look at it this way: If Disney's Corbin Bleu and Zac Efron can portray musical prodigies in Highschool Musical, these Broadway savvy kids are certainly able to rise to the challenge as the gleeks of Glee.

Glee Cast Sings at The World Series

The Glee cast sang their hearts out before Game 3 of the World Series on October 31st at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. Amber Riley was the lead, and it's hard not to wonder if "Rachel" (Lea Michele) was maybe a little jealous. ;)
