I don't think you fully understood my suggestion regarding Quinn and her performance of Madonna's ode to pregnant teens, "Papa Don't Preach". In this preview of tonight's episode, we see that Quinn doesn't actually sing the song to her dad.
Ryan, wtf?!? That's like Dolly singing "So Long Dearie" to a newpaper boy instead of to Horace Vandergelder - it loses all of its punch! For those of you who need a more current example, think of the Dreamgirls movie. Deana (aka Beyonce) sings "Listen" in a recording studio. Her freedom anthem is essentially a pop song that could have been written by and sung to anyone. Imagine how infinitely powerful it would have been if she'd sung to directly to Curtis (aka Jamie Foxx) at the dinner table right after Curtis said he owned her. Fo' realz! Missed opportunity, yo.
