I came across an interesting interview today (written a few weeks ago) in the LA Times with Jessalyn Gilsig. As you all know, she plays Will Schuester's crazy, fake baby-bump-wearing wife. I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of her character but I know she is necessary to make the show work so I manage to find ways to like her. I am a big fan of her as an actress and think she has talent oozing from her. She has created a layered character that you love to hate.Take a look at an excerpt of the interview and see the whole thing here:
How has it been to see the fan reaction to Terri?
Interesting? It’s sort of tough. To be totally candid, after "Wheels" aired, I went online and my homepage is latimes.com. I thought, ‘Oh, this episode is safe because I’m not in it.’ Yeah. I read the recap and said, ‘OK, I’m going back to bed and I’m not getting up for the rest of my life’ (laughs). It’s OK, I’ll live. It was just a bit of a burn in the morning. [An excerpt from said recap: "Wednesday night was sheer perfection. And I hope I'm not the only one who didn't notice Mrs. Schuester wasn't present.... Take the hint."]
Did you expect this kind of backlash? At the summer Fox TCA party, Matthew Morrison, who plays Will, did say he was worried for you.
Creatively am I worried? No. I’ve been so lucky to have worked with [series creator] Ryan Murphy before and we’ve communicated about this. From the moment that I took the part, he was very candid about it being a really difficult part. How else can Will come off as sympathetic if he’s going to flirt so blatantly with this woman at school unless he has this really dysfunctional marriage at home? So in some ways I knew I was a sacrificial lamb. So we said, OK, let’s make it entertaining as possible…
We know that Terri is back for at least a few episodes in the back 9 but I'm pretty sure Ryan will have her stick around through the season. Tell me, how do you all feel about Terri Schuester?
Jessalyn Gilsig is great, but the fake baby thing has been a huge distraction. A relationship doesn't have to have a fake baby to be dysfunctional, though I admit this storyline is unique. If Ryan Murphy can find another storyline for Terri I'd love to see her stick around. And no mention has been made of Howard Bamboo, who would presumably be left out if Terri departs. He's hilarious.

ReplyDeletei say will should leave her by divorcing her and dating emma, but because i love the actress have her stalk emma and will, that way we keep her on the show and it will be enertaing to watch this way
