To Sir, With Glee

The Season 1 Finale was not only a dream come true for all Finchel fans, but also Wemma, Quick and Belby (yes, also motherly love counts!) had their moment. In each paragraph of the following recap, I'm going to hide the songs which have been sung in this episode, so keep your eyes open!

When the kids hear that Sue is going to be a judge at Regionals, they are even more desperate than they already are when thinking about the upcoming competition against the strong Vocal Adrenaline. But Schue tells them how, one day, they will all have graduated and look back on the good days in Glee club, so they should not stop believin' now. This, and some inspiration from the radio leads to his choosing a Journey medley as performance for Regionals.

Finn and Rachel finally get together and plan to do their best at Regionals, since it is their united force as leaders of New Directions, which can help win the competition. They do not want to get discouraged by the news that Sue is going to be a judge at Regionals. At the competition, they confess their love to one another (in song, as well as in word) promising to be faithful forever, now that neither Quinn, Puck nor Jesse stand in their way. In the end of their performance, they hug and seem to be very confident about winning. It is not only a Journey of the entire Glee club, but of its single members and when Rachel rests her head on Finn's shoulder at the end of the episode, the world seems perfect.

Eighteen episodes after Quinn discovered she is pregnant, the audience get to see the moment of lovin', touchin' and squeezin' another (i.e. Noah Puckerman). That night, Puck lied to her about using protection, which resulted in much trouble, but also great songs throughout the season. This, however, was not the first time we heard this song on Glee, as the Journey original was already in the Pilot when Finn and his mom's boyfriend Darren were spray-painting the lawn. In the finale, New Directions mashed it up with Journey's "Any Way You Want It" – so well, that if you do not know the songs, you might think, they are just one.

During Jesse's musical climax in Vocal Adrenaline's performance of Bohemian Rhapsody – and some six minutes later - the baby is finally brought into this world and Quinn screams "You suck! You suck! You suck!" at the slightly pale, frightened and not at all manly-looking Puck. These two events are so well-matched that one could almost think that Quinn's screams of pain and anger actually belong into the song (Kudos to the staff!). But after the pain is gone, the peaceful expression on her face when she holds the baby in her arms makes you think what a nice mom she would be. Nevertheless, Quinn gives the baby up for adoption and Shelby, Rachel's mom, promises to raise her well (Queen Berry II, anyone?). At Puck's request, she names her Beth and resigns from Vocal Adrenaline's leadership to finally have a private life.

After their defeat and before they know that their Glee club is not going to be disbanded, the McKinley kids decide to sing a song to Schue (Sir) with love to thank him for the past school year. They tell him what he means to each of them, being their teacher and supporting them in every situation of life. Everyone in this scene is moved to tears and the song they perform makes the viewer cry, as well.

After revealing to them that Sue has helped them to have another musically inspired year of Glee club, Schue returns the favor by singing a song to the kids, as well. Although his own love life and dreams are shattered once again when Emma tells him she is seeing her dentist , he longs for the time he will be over the rainbow and all his dreams fulfilled.

Sue, however, had made the Glee kids cry in despair and anger rather than grief, and had seemed to be the bad girl again in the beginning of the episode, since she joined the judges for Regionals and contributed to New Directions' defeat. But it is then revealed that she voted for New Directions for first place and blackmailed Figgins once again to give the Glee club another year. It seems surreal, but Sue can actually be nice sometimes…
